For the first game of the 2012–13 campaign against the Toronto Maple Leafs on January 19, 2013, Alex was named to the Canadiens’ roster. Since 1984, he was the Canadiens’ youngest player to play an entire season. He skillfully tipped in a shot from Brandon Prust on January 22, 2013, for his first NHL goal against Scott Clemmensen of the Florida Panthers. Brendan Gallagher, a rookie teammate, assisted in his first NHL point as well.
