In his first match as a professional wrestler, Buster Douglas defeated Dan O’Malley in 1981. In July of that year, he defeated Mike Lear. Later, he won fights against Jesse Clark, Abdul Muhaymin, and Mike Rodgers.
After five straight victories, Douglas faced David Bey in November 1981 and lost his first match. He defeated Don Johnson a month later. In October 1982, he boxed Steffen Tangstad of Norway. The first draw of his career was the outcome.
After a thirteen-match winning streak, Douglas lost to Mike White in 1983 for the second time in his career. Then he overcame Dion Simpson and Randall Cobb.
