On March 31, 2009, Chip Kelly received a promotion to head coach in Oregon. When the Ducks defeated the USC Trojans in October 2009, he attracted widespread attention. During his debut coaching season, he was recognized as the first Pac-ten coach to win the whole conference tournament. by leading his Ducks squad to the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1995. He was recognized for his remarkable accomplishments by being selected “PAC-10 coach of the year” on December 7, 2009. Only the second head coach of the Ducks has ever received this distinction.
