Career
Chris Hadfield was given a glider pilot scholarship by the Royal Canadian Air Cadets when he was 15 years old. After high school, he enlisted in the Canadian military and attended Military College. There, he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
He underwent official training, participated in an exchange program at the US Air Force Test Pilot School, and flew tactical fighter aircraft. He obtained a master’s degree in Aviation Systems from the University of Tennessee Space Institute. He flew more than 75 different types of aircraft there.
Four astronauts from Canada were selected, including Hadfield. He contributed to the creation of numerous space stations. He served as NASA’s lead CAPCOM for 25 flights, serving as the astronauts’ interface with mission control.
