He gained fame as Winston Zeddemore as a result, who joins the Ghostbusters in the movies Ghostbusters and its 1989 sequel.

He also tried out for the Ghostbuster part in the animated series The Real Ghostbusters, but Arsenio Hall was given the part instead. In The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, he also portrayed the mentally challenged handyman Solomon. In the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot, this actor portrayed Bill Jenkins, the uncle of Leslie Jones’ lead character Pattie Tolan.

He also started playing Gabrielle Union’s divorced father on L.A.’s Finest. The actor stressed the conflict between wanting to protect people as a member of law enforcement and having open links that need to be closed by describing it as “a completely different program.”
