The icon of the day at the time, Roy Orbison, had an impact on J. D. Souther’s love of music. With the Cinders Group, who used to visit the Norman Petty studios in Clovis, New Mexico, Southern recorded his debut recording.

In 1965, Souther’s 45 tracks were made available on the tiny RIC label. To create the single song John David and The Cinders in 1966, Norman Petty Studios took the track to Warner Brothers.
