Career
The icon of the day at the time, Roy Orbison, had an impact on J. D. Souther’s love of music. With the Cinders Group, who used to visit the Norman Petty studios in Clovis, New Mexico, Southern recorded his debut recording.
In 1965, Souther’s 45 tracks were made available on the tiny RIC label. To create the single song John David and The Cinders in 1966, Norman Petty Studios took the track to Warner Brothers.
J. D. Souther first met singer-songwriter Glenn Frey not long after relocating to Los Angeles County. They grew close and collaborated on several tunes. Long Branch Pennywhistle, a folk duo, was later created by them. The group put out a single song in 1970 through Jimmy Browen’s Amos Records.
