Career
Young Jack Nicklaus started playing golf, and in 1957 he took first place in the International Jaycee Junior Golf Tournament. At the age of 19, he won at Woodhill Country Club and Prairie Dunes Country Club. While still a student, he captured both the US Amateur and the NCAA Championship.
He represented the United States in both the 1959 and 1961 Walker Cup competitions. In 1962, he started playing on the PGA Tour professionally. He won his first professional championship at the US Open in 1962. The Portland Open and the Seattle Open were later won by Nicklaus.
In 1963, he won the Masters and the PGA Championships. He became the first golfer to win the Masters twice in a row in 1965 and 1966. He accomplished history’s first double sweep of all four majors in 1971.
In 1980, he won his fifth PGA Championship and fourth US Open. He won his sixth master in 1986 when he was 46 years old. In 1990, he started competing on the Senior PGA Tour. He has won each of the seven Senior Majors during his career.
