Jerry Jones paid H.R. Bright $140 million for the Dallas Cowboys on February 25, 1989. After making the purchase, he sacked the coach, Tom Landry, and hired Jimmy Johnson in his place. He eventually let Tex Schramm go as general manager. All of it eventually came under his authority.
