Julie Kavner’s acting career got its start in 1973 when she went on The Mary Tyler Moore Show’s open call list to play one of Rhoda Morgenstern’s sisters. The show’s producer, David Davis, had convinced her to try out, but ultimately chose to cast another actress. A year later, Rhoda Morgenstern was named the lead in a Rhoda spin-off.
