Attorney Leslie Alexander began his professional career. He was a part of the California State Bar from 1978 to 2009. Trading options and bonds for Wall Street firm Lawrence Kotkin Associates was his first employment. He departed in 1980 to start The Alexander Group, an investment company. Additionally, he controls 18.5% of private student loan provider First Marblehead.

Just before the NBA season began in July 1993, Alexander gave the Houston Rockets $85 million. The NBA championship was won by the Rockets the following two years, in 1993-94 and 1994-95. In 2008, Forbes ranked him the NBA’s top owner.
