On November 6, 2009, Tuilagi made his Leicester debut against South Africa.

He joined the primary Tigers squad to start the 2010–11 campaign.

He received a nomination for the England Saxons due to his prior stellar performance. In 2011, Tuilagi received a yellow card for striking Chris Ashton, a former rugby league player, while the two were touring the Premiership semi-final.
