Martin Garritsen was born on May 14, 1996, in Amstelveen, Netherlands, to Gerard and Karin Garritsen. He began playing the guitar at the age of eight. Garrix has a sister named Laura as well. In Utrecht, he attended Herman Brood Academy, a production school. He was inspired by Tisto’s performance during the Olympic Games in Athens and has wanted to be a DJ ever since Martin is rumored to be dating model Charelle Schriek.

When Tisto discovered Garrix at the age of fourteen, he launched his career. His first tracks, BFAM and ‘Just Some Loops,’ were collaborations with Julian Jordan and TV Noise, respectively.
