Michelle Phillips, real name Holly Michelle Gilliam, was born on June 4, 1944 in Long Beach, California, United States. Joyce Leone (formerly Poole; November 2, 1920 – January 18, 1950) and Gardner Burnett Gilliam (July 18, 1914 – March 22, 1996) were her parents.
Her mother was an accountant, and her father was a merchant mariner. Russell Ann (April 17, 1943 – December 10, 2018) was her elder sister. Michelle was five years old when her mother died of a brain hemorrhage. Following her mother’s death, her father relocated to Mexico, where he studied sociology at Mexico City College.
