Young Ricky started competing in sprint car races, and in 2003 he was voted Dirt Winged Sprint Car Rookie of the Year. The following year, he started competing in the USAC sprint car series. After two seasons, he won the 360 and 410 divisions of the driver pool for the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame. He made his professional stock car racing debut in 2008 with the ARCA Racing Series.
